Tennis in the United States is played on three kinds of places: public park courts run by a city or county, member clubs and country clubs with their own pros and leagues, and commercial tennis centers that sell court time by the hour. Public courts are usually free and first come, first served, with a posted limit (often 60-90 minutes when others are waiting); busier cities run online reservation systems with a small fee and a permit for the season. Indoor courts are rented by the hour and booked days ahead in winter. Most facilities are hard courts; clay is common in the Southeast and at private clubs, and grass is rare. Lights extend play into the evening at many parks, sometimes with a coin or app-operated switch.

Facility has a total of 7 courts. 5 of which are lit. The courts have two different types of surfaces which I don't really care for. The upper, non lit courts are a traditional hard court. And are in pretty decent shape with no cracks affecting play. The other courts have been resurfaced using a different approach. The courts are easier on bones, but have a few dead spots. Also, no public restrooms or even porta potty is available. Nets are in great shape as well as the lighting itself.

7 overall outdoor courts on the campus of IWU. They just re-surfaced them, but 4 of the 7 have the carpet-overlay. Works fine for beginners and leisure play for doubles, but that carpet overlay surface has dead spots and the ball certainly doesn’t bounce the same as on a normal hard court surface. Singles play at a competitive level is frustrating. Aesthetically and locationally, these courts are awesome. If it weren’t for the surface on 4 or them, it would be the place to play outside in BN. But if I can’t play on the top 3 courts, I go elsewhere.
